Diplomatic talks involving American, Moscow, and Kyiv officials commenced in Abu Dhabi this Tuesday, representing the most recent step in efforts to forge a peace agreement to resolve the protracted conflict in the region.

High-Level Delegates and Opening Talks

American military official Dan Driscoll reportedly met with a Moscow group on the eve of the talks, with negotiations proceeding into the following day.

“Negotiations are advancing smoothly with continued optimism. Secretary Driscoll is closely synchronised with the White House ... as these talks progress,” an official representative commented.

Ukraine’s military intelligence chief, the head of military intelligence, was anticipated to participate in the discussions, though it remained unclear whether direct engagement with Russian representatives would take place or if distinct bilateral sessions would be held.

Membership of the Russian delegation was not immediately clear. “No comment is available. Our position is to monitor press coverage,” a Russian spokesperson informed official outlets.

Context and Revised Proposal

These meetings follow recent negotiations in a European nation where American and Kyiv officials revised a preliminary American proposal for resolving the conflict.

Moscow has so far not endorsed the latest version of the proposal and is not expected to accept many of the Ukrainian revisions.

Russia’s foreign minister, the Russian diplomat, declared that any revised agreement must reflect the “essence and wording” of what was agreed during previous summit meetings between both nations.

International Reactions and Concerns

European leaders are reportedly finding it difficult to stay engaged in the process as US representatives take the lead.

The Finnish leader, a European figure, who has stepped forward as a key contact between Washington and EU officials, commented that the coming days would be critical in attempts to find a agreement.

He reportedly spoke with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Nato representatives, stating that “Ukraine’s destiny must be determined by Ukrainians, and with European security falling under Europe’s purview.”

Meanwhile, the French leader, the French official, warned against a peace deal that would amount to a “capitulation” for the nation.

“Terms presented suggest what Russia could agree to. However, must Kyiv and European nations consent to these terms? Absolutely not,” he affirmed.

Specifics of the Initial US Plan

The US proposal was originally composed of 28 points and was based on discussions between American and Moscow officials, with input from Ukrainian security officials.

Major elements of the plan allegedly included:

The US official allegedly went to Kyiv to inform the Ukrainian president on the proposal and demand rapid approval.

Zelenskyy reportedly that the nation was facing one of the toughest moments in its existence and was being forced to choose between “surrendering honor or sacrificing a vital partner.”

Russian forces allegedly launched numerous of missiles and many of drones at objectives in and around the capital, as stated by Ukrainian sources.

Zelenskyy stressed that Moscow must not believe it could win the conflict while talks were underway.

“The priority is coordinated diplomatic movement among all partners, through shared endeavors. Sanctions and pressure on Moscow must yield outcomes,” he affirmed.

The capital’s mayor reported that multiple people had been fatally injured in the overnight attack on the city.
