Triple NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee while the Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 at the Heat.

The Serbian center was hurt in the latter stages of the opening half following an unintentional collision with team-mate Spencer Jones.

His teammate landed on the footwear of the big man, who instantly fell to the floor holding his knee.

The 30-year-old, who is leading the league season in rebounds and dimes, had a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to incurring the injury.

Jokic will have an MRI on the following day to assess the seriousness of the injury.

"Right away, Jokic understood he was hurt," stated Denver head coach Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Whoever who is injured, it's tough to see, especially a player as special as Jokic. We will know more tomorrow."

"We will continue as a team. Of course, right now, I'm more concerned primarily about Jokic as a person and the letdown of experiencing a situation of that nature."
