The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
