The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
