The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new opening credits. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks stunning. However, I felt that an element was missing in the music selection.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song composed by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track originating from the official score of the same name, the second release released by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I believe that devotees of the second campaign will love its presence.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the hype and energy that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has already said that the series will have a few changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.
