The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a girl harboring several human souls inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Within her exist four separate souls, all possessing unique anxieties and drives. These souls can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Based on revealed footage, much of the action unfolds within a eerie hospital, though additional clips depict the main character exploring a abandoned church.

A World of Individual Horror

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Things that appear minor to other people can activate something primal within us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The core mechanic revolves around managing the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily as you play. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become amplified and attack the protagonist in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the waiting room have large blooms growing from their heads are. Flowers are a recurring theme, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "true" one. "All four souls asserts that the body belongs to them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

Once players have deduced a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. But, since every entity can lie or hide the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The final entity standing could be a fake. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is can be follow on platforms.
