Severe Downpours Aggravate Conditions for Displaced Palestinians in Gaza, Officials Alert
Heavy rains over the recent period have intensified the already dire living conditions of the vast number of displaced residents in the Gaza Strip, as stated by relief agencies.
"Terrible" Conditions Creates Serious Risks
A official characterized the previous night's conditions as "horrendous", with downpours so heavy that up to 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the ground.
"These conditions was really terrible for the people. The storms were so strong... And the gales were so strong," noted the spokesperson.
Officials express extreme concern that children residing in makeshift shelters in wet clothing will succumb to hypothermia and various sicknesses.
Deaths and Extensive Damage
Health authorities have stated that one baby has succumbed from hypothermia and at least 11 other people have been killed in structural failures caused by the severe weather.
Further statements indicate a higher death toll. Spokespeople reported that multiple residential buildings had totally fallen and many others had collapsed partially.

Assistance Efforts Considered Not Enough
Organizations have stepped up shipments of tents, blankets and clothes after the ceasefire commenced, but they have said there is still not enough aid getting in.
"Agencies are working relentlessly to deliver that assistance and to allocate it, but the size of the needs is so enormous that we continue to see thousands of families and minors who are really suffering nightly," warned one official.
Future Issues and Ceasefire Plans
The subsequent part of the ceasefire involves proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the removal of troops, and other terms.
Aid bodies have stressed the imperative for "expanded and ongoing aid to address immediate and ongoing needs."
The war was triggered by an assault in late 2023. Later military operations have led to a significant number of casualties in the territory, based on official data.
