Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Songs About Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side only half a year following leading insulting taunts directed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a contract with the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. His lengthy career with Leeds was ended by mutual consent this past summer.

One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading abusive chants about Wilder during the club’s promotion party in April. Currently, the one-cap England player will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift his beloved club out of the drop zone.

Previous Conflict Involving Bamford and the Manager

Both men had a past prior to Leeds won promotion to the top flight the previous campaign and United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described the forward as “a muppet” when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the playoffs.

Reconciliation and Moving Forward

Everything appears has been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost up front while Bamford hoping to resurrect his playing days.

The Wilder chant spread widely in April. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I have no problem at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow professional! However I valued and admired him calling me.

“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke as well and had a longer discussion with him and he's a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we would give it and accept it and that is part and parcel of the game at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Pat.”

Latest Playing Struggles

The forward made 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the former Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough player has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
