The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-episode season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."

The last season concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived this week.

New Challenges for AC-12

Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle misconduct within the police force.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."

New Character and Complex Case

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.

However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details hinted.

Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."

The drama premiered in 2012 and became one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Stephen Graham.

Broadcasters has not yet announced when the new season will premiere.

The conclusion of season six brought the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.
