Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last season concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle misconduct within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers watch the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

The Scottish actor described being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
