Former Doctor Charged with Sexual Assault Allegations Involving Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a former doctor has been charged with performing assaults involving 38 individuals who were under his care.

The Grave Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous acts of sexual assault – comprising acts against children younger than 13 – between 2017 and 2021.

A deputy chief prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Police Inquiry

These allegations come after what police described as a “detailed inquiry” into alleged assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Offences

The charging documents said the 45 sexual offences comprise:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.

Authorities are urging individuals with information to contact the investigating team.
