Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces growing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could assist the team reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them few options but to travel to Timmony in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
